The reverse of the 12-back card was modified from the original 12A cardback when it became apparent that part of the text on the card wasn't relevant to some of the UK toys. The change concerned the description of the vehicles shown at the bottom of the card. The UK version of the X-wing fighter toy did not have electronic light and sound as stated on the cardback. This was a feature of the US version of this toy. The text 'laser light and sound' was removed to correct this. The same text was also removed from the description of the Tie fighter toy, most likely as it was not intended to have electronics either. I have not seen a Palitoy boxed Tie Fighter to confirm whether it had the light and sound, it is more common to find Kenner boxed Tie Fighters (with a Palitoy sticker) in this country, which do have the feature.

Close examination of a 12B card will reveal that the original text from a 12A card is
present on the card, but this has somehow been neatly blacked out. This is only really
noticeable on cards which have faded to some extent, but if you look at any card hard
enough the original text is faintly visible. As such the 12B may not be a true printed
variation, but most collectors accept the missing text as proof of a later release.
The text removal has been done very neatly, and it is quite possible the cards were actually printed this way rather than modified at a later date. The revised cards are likely to have been taken from the original cards with the incorrect text somehow masked in the printing process. I do not believe this is like some of the later Return of the Jedi cards, where text seems to have been obscured using something like a black marker pen, as it appears too neat. There is no way of proving this though as twenty years of ageing may have hidden any evidence. I would be interested to here any other collectors knowledge on this matter.
